Massive Investment in Future Networks

To drive innovation and secure leadership in the 6G arena, China Mobile has committed over $5.4 billion to 6G research and development. These investments support four major national scientific and technological projects, which are focused on developing core 6G technologies. China Mobile has also introduced a 6G baseband prototype system targeting the Sub-7 GHz frequency band. This advanced system features:

Despite these major developments, 6G remains in the experimental phase. Global standardization is being coordinated by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), with Release 21 — which will define technical standards for 6G — expected to be finalized by June 2026. China, however, has set a clear timeline, targeting 2030 for commercial deployment of 6G technologies.
