Rick Ross Arrested on Battery Charges in Miami
Rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach on Thursday and faces two battery-related charges, according to Miami-Dade County jail and court records. The charges include felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery, with the records indicating a domestic-violence designation.
Arrest in Miami Beach
Ross, whose legal name is William Roberts II, was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Thursday. His bail was initially listed at $5,000, and an arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
Authorities have not publicly released extensive details about the allegations behind the charges.
Allegations Involving Ex-Girlfriend
The arrest comes days after Ross's former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, publicly accused him of physical abuse in social-media posts. She shared photographs of an injury and made allegations about an incident during their relationship.
It has not been independently established that Kendrick's public allegations are the same incident underlying the criminal charges.
Ross Pleads Not Guilty
Ross's attorney, Steve Sadow, said the rapper is being wrongfully accused. According to the defense, Ross has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.
His legal team has asked the public not to prejudge the case while the judicial process continues.
The case remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been proven in court. Further proceedings are expected at Ross's October 22 arraignment.
