WHY DO ASTRONAUTS DRINK URINE?
Water is heavy and hard to transport into space orbit, which is why the International Space Station is an expert when it comes to recycling. Even astronaut urine is collected and processed to make it drinkable. Why do Astronauts drink recycled urine?
The urine purification system is an interweaving of pipes, pumps and wires connected to a huge tank with pretreated urine, resembling cola in color. We observe how urine moves through one of the transparent pipes into the largest vessel in the entire system, the size of a home oven. The vacuum pump sucks the air out of the tank. When the pressure inside the vessel decreases, the boiling point of the liquid drops. This means that water can be excreted from the urine without heating it.The liquid remaining after the primary distillation is sent back to the system to extract the maximum amount of water from it. As a result of the process, concentrated salty sediment and pure water are formed. However, before astronauts can taste this ultra-pure water, it is additionally treated to prevent the spread of bacteria.
do astronauts drink their own urine in space so answer is yes Astronauts have been drinking distilled urine since 2009, and they currently recapture 93 percent of wastewater,It spins the urine at high speed to separate out the water vapor, then treats it chemically.
