FASTags with Incomplete KYC Process to Get De-Activated
- The NHAI announced on January 15, 2024 that FASTags with valid balance but with incomplete KYC process will get deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024.
- The move came after the recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a particular vehicle and FASTags being issued without KYC, in violation of RBI’s mandate.
- In a bid to enhance efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and provide seamless movement at the Toll Plazas, NHAI has undertaken ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative.
- FASTag is an electronic toll collection system in India, operated by the National Highways Authority of India.
Installment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin Inaugurated
- PM Narendra Modi released the first installment to one lakh beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana - Gramin under the PM-JANMAN via video conferencing on January 15, 2024.
- The PM-JANMAN was launched for the socio-economic welfare of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in November 2023.
- The PM-JANMAN, with a budget of around ₹24000 crore, focuses on 11 critical interventions through 9 Ministries.
- The initiative aims to enhance socio-economic conditions for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by providing essential facilities like housing, education, healthcare etc.

54th WEF Summit in Davos
- The 54th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum has begun on January 15, 2024 at Davos, Switzerland.
- The theme is ‘Rebuilding Trust’, emphasizing the focus on exploring the opportunities enabled by the new technologies and their implications on decision-making and global partnership.
- Issues related to climate change, threats from artificial intelligence, cooperation amid geopolitical fragmentation and other problems across the globe will be discussed.
- Ongoing conflicts like the Ukraine War, Israel-Hamas war will also be part of the agenda.
- Union Ministers Smriti Irani, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Hardeep Singh Puri will be representing India at the 5-day event.
Crown Prince Frederik X became King of Denmark
- Crown Prince Frederik X became the King of Denmark on January 15, 2024, succeeding his mother, Queen Margrethe II, who formally abdicated after 52 years as monarch.
- 83-year-old Margrethe is the first Danish monarch to voluntarily relinquish the throne in nearly 900 years.
- She stunned the nation when she announced her plans to step down on television on New Year’s Eve.
- Australian-born wife of King, Mary is the first commoner to become Queen of Denmark.

Asia Olympic Qualifiers 2024
- Indian Shooter Yogesh Singh won gold in Men's 25m Centre Fire Pistol at Asia Olympic Qualifiers on January 15, 2024.
- Yogesh Singh winning the top prize in individual as well as team event of the men’s 25m centre fire pistol competition in Jakarta, Indonesia.
- Yogesh claimed the individual gold medal after shooting 573, finishing ahead of silver winner Muad Al Balushi of Oman (570) and Indonesia’s Anang Yulianto (567).
- The other two Indian participants in the event, Pankaj Yadav (567) and Akshay Jain (564), ended fourth and sixth.

- Sharmistha Mukherjee called on PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi and presented him book ‘Pranab My Father: A Daughter Remembers’ on January 15, 2024.
- Sharmistha Mukherjee is daughter of Former President Pranav Mukherjee and this book based on her father's life.
- The book is also a mirror to the father-daughter relationship between Pranab Mukherjee and Sharmishtha.
- The book is being brought out by Rupa Publications.
