New Appointment of Central Government
- Senior IAS officer Vikas Sheel appointed Executive Director, Asian Development Bank (ADB) on January 6, 2024.
- Smita Sarangi has been appointed as Adviser to the Executive Director at ADB in Manila, Philippines.
- Senthil Pandian C, a 2002-batch IAS officer, is now the Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.
- Parveen Kumar, a 2004 batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer, is now the Adviser to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, USA.

Finance Minister Visited at Credit Outreach Programme
- The Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Gangtok, Sikkim on January 6, 2024, to preside over a Credit Outreach Programme.
- The programme was jointly organized by the State Bank of India and NABARD.
- She informed that the Bank density is higher in Sikkim than the national average.
- There are 32 bank branches for every one lakh population in Sikkim while the national average is 14.
- She informed that under Jan Dhan Yojana, there are over 51 crore accounts across India, out of which 55% belong to women.
Indian Economy to Grow at 7.3 % in Current FY
- National Statistical Office (NSO) announced on January 6, 2024 that the Indian economy will grow by a robust 7.3 % in the Financial Year (FY) 2023-24.
- It is over and above the provisional growth rate of 7.2 % during the last financial year 2022-23.
- NSO in its report based on First Advance Estimates (FAE) of National Income for the FY 2023-24, said that the construction sector has been estimated to have double-digit growth of 10.7 %.
- It highlighted that all the economic sectors have fared well by witnessing more than 6%, except for the Agriculture and Allied sectors, for which the estimated growth is 1.8 %.
- NSO said that this report has been prepared based on data inputs collected from various Ministries, Departments, and Private Agencies.

Aditya L1 Satellite Entered into Final Orbit
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully entered Aditya L1 satellite into final orbit on January 6, 2024.
- ISRO informed that Aditya L1 has successfully entered the Halo orbit around the Lagrangian (L1) point.
- Aditya L1 is India’s maiden Solar mission to observe and study the Sun’s Corona, understand its extreme heat and its influence on Earth.
- L1 is the Lagrangian Point where gravitational forces between the Earth and the Sun reach equilibrium and the Sun can be observed without the hindrance of eclipse.

Best Innovation Award
- ‘SVAMITVA Scheme’ won the Best Innovation Award for Innovation Sandbox Presentation during the Public Policy Dialogue-2024 on January 6, 2024 in ISB (Hyderabad).
- It is a central sector scheme and ensures the proper and accurate demarcation of land parcels by using the methods of GIS mapping technology.
- This scheme also received the Gold Award in the category “Using Emerging Technology to Provide Citizen-Centric Services” at the National Awards for e-Governance 2023 in Indore.
- This was also awarded the Gold Award for the category “Innovative Use of Technology in e-Governance for Digital Transformation” at the Digitech Conclave 2023 held in Goa.
