Training Programme ‘Prabodhan Karykram’ Organised

  • Two -day training programme named ‘Prabodhan Karykram’ will be organized for the members of the 16th Assembly from January 9, 2024 in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will address the first-time elected and experienced members of the Assembly in the programme.
  • Various speakers including MP Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar will give information about various parliamentary procedures including the office of profit.
  • Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar will present their views in the concluding session.

 

PM Modi Inaugurated Vibrant Gujarat Trade Show

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show at Gandhinagar on January 9, 2024.
  • It is inaugurated in the presence of the President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi, President of Timor Leste José Ramos-Horta and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel.
  • A total of 100 countries are participating in the five-day trade show as visiting countries, while 33 countries are joining as partners.
  • Trade show focuses on emerging sectors such as electric vehicles, green hydrogen, renewable energy, semiconductors and cyber-security.
  • Over 1000 exhibitors in the research sector representing 20 countries including Australia, South Korea, Singapore, UAE, UK, Germany and Norway are participating in the trade show.

 

CCPA Issued Notice to 31 Coaching Institutes

  • The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to 31 coaching institutes for misleading advertisements on January 9, 2024.
  • It has also imposed fine on 9 coaching institutes for misleading advertisement.
  • The authority has observed that some of the coaching Institutes also indulge in making claims like 100 % selection and job guaranteed without providing verifiable evidence.
  • The CCPA conducted its first meeting of the Committee constituted to prepare Guidelines with respect to misleading advertisements in coaching sector.

 

National Kala Utsav Launched

  • Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated National Kala Utsav at National Bal Bhawan in New Delhi on January 9, 2024.
  • National Kala Utsav is an initiative of his ministry to promote arts in learning and education as well as to nurture and showcase the talent of school students.
  • It will witness performances in 10 art forms including classical and traditional folk vocal music, instrumental music, classical and folk dance, visual arts, and solo acting.
  • Around 700 students from 36 States and union territories will showcase their art forms in all these genres in three-day Kala Utsav.

 

NEET PG 2024 Postponed

  • The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 has been postponed on January 9, 2024 to July 7, 2024.
  • As per the National Board of Examination in Medical Science, the cut-off date for the purpose of eligibility to appear in the NEET PG 2024 will be August 15, 2024.
  • National Exit Test (NExT), a national level medical exam, will be delayed by a year and will be tentatively launched in 2025.
  • The recently-notified "Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023" state that NEET-PG will continue until NExT becomes operational for PG admission.
  • NEET-PG is the single entrance examination for admission to MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses.

Sheikh Hasina Became PM of Bangladesh

  • Sheikh Hasina has been elected the PM of Bangladesh for the fifth time on January 9, 2024.
  • Bangladesh's PM Sheikh Hasina has been in power since 2009 and she belong to Awami League party.
  • Hasina's party Awami League has secured 223 seats in the 300-seat Parliament.
  • The opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party has boycotted the elections.

 

Leopard Became National Symbol of Kyrgyzstan

  • Central Asian country, Kyrgyzstan, has declared the snow leopard as the national symbol on January 8, 2024.
  • President Zhaparov's order highlights the important role of snow leopards in maintaining ecological balance.
  • The loss of these magnificent creatures in the wild poses a significant threat to the delicate balance of mountain ecosystems.
  • The Global Snow Leopard Forum was hosted by Kyrgyzstan in the year 2013.

 

Gabriel Attal Appointed PM of France

  • President Emmanuel Macron appointed Gabriel Attal as France's new prime minister on January 9, 2024.
  • At 34, Attal is the youngest PM in French history and the first openly gay official to hold this prestigious position.
  • Attal’s appointment comes in the midst of a cabinet reshuffle initiated by Macron to breathe new life into his government.
  • With the departure of outgoing Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Attal is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the administration.

Bloomberg Billionaires Index 2024 Released

  • The Bloomberg Billionaires Index released the list of the world's richest people on January 9, 2024.
  • According to this list, Elon Musk is the richest person in the world and his total wealth is 219 billion dollars.
  • In second place is Jeff Bezos with a net worth of $170 billion and Bernard Arnold of France is the third richest person in the world with a net worth of $167 billion.
  • Mukesh Ambani whose net worth is $97 billion, is the 12th richest person in the world and Gautam Adani is at 14th place in this list.

Best Innovation Award

  • ‘SVAMITVA Scheme’ won the Best Innovation Award for Innovation Sandbox Presentation during the Public Policy Dialogue-2024 on January 6, 2024 in ISB (Hyderabad).
  • It is a central sector scheme and ensures the proper and accurate demarcation of land parcels by using the methods of GIS mapping technology.
  • This scheme also received the Gold Award in the category “Using Emerging Technology to Provide Citizen-Centric Services” at the National Awards for e-Governance 2023 in Indore.
  • This was also awarded the Gold Award for the category “Innovative Use of Technology in e-Governance for Digital Transformation” at the Digitech Conclave 2023 held in Goa.

Rashid Khan

  • Hindustani classical singer and music maestro Utsad Rashid Khan passed away in Kolkata on January 9, 2024.
  • He was 55 and he was suffering from cancer and was admitted to a private health facility in Kolkata in November 2023.
  • The vocalist won several awards including Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2006.
  • In 2022, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award of the country.
  • The West Bengal government also honoured Ustad Rashid Khan with Banga Bibhushan and Sangeet Mahasamman.
