Cabinet Approves ₹25,060 Crore Export Promotion Mission to Boost India’s Trade Competitiveness

In a major push to strengthen India’s position in global trade, the Union Cabinet has approved the ₹25,060 crore Export Promotion Mission (EPM) aimed at boosting the country’s export competitiveness, enhancing market access, and creating a robust ecosystem for exporters.

The mission, spanning five years (2025–2030), seeks to accelerate India’s export growth by addressing key bottlenecks such as logistics inefficiencies, market diversification, and product innovation. It aligns with the government’s vision to make India a $2 trillion export economy by 2030.

Key Objectives of the Export Promotion Mission

  • Enhance Export Competitiveness: The mission will focus on high-value and technology-driven sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, textiles, and renewable energy.

  • Strengthen Export Infrastructure: Modernization of ports, establishment of Export Promotion Industrial Parks (EPIPs), and expansion of Free Trade Warehousing Zones (FTWZs) are key components.

  • Support MSME Exporters: Special funding support and credit guarantee schemes will help small and medium enterprises expand globally.

  • Market Diversification: The mission targets new and emerging markets in Africa, Latin America, and Central Asia while deepening trade relations with major partners like the U.S., EU, and ASEAN.

  • Skill and Technology Development: Export-oriented skill programs and digital trade platforms will be promoted to build capacity and efficiency among exporters.

Implementation and Funding

The mission will be implemented under the coordination of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with state governments and export promotion councils.
Out of the total ₹25,060 crore, around ₹15,000 crore will be directed towards infrastructure and logistics, while ₹7,000 crore will be allocated for technology upgradation, capacity building, and digital initiatives.

Expected Outcomes

  • Increase India’s share in global merchandise trade from 2.1% to 4% by 2030.

  • Generate 1.5 crore direct and indirect jobs across export-oriented sectors.

  • Reduce logistics cost from the current 9% of GDP to 6%.

  • Boost export earnings through innovation and value-added products.

Government’s Vision

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while chairing the Cabinet meeting, stated that the mission reflects India’s determination to “produce for the world and prosper through global competitiveness.” Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal added that the initiative would make India’s export ecosystem “simpler, smarter, and stronger,” ensuring long-term trade sustainability.

The Export Promotion Mission is expected to be a game-changer, positioning India as a reliable global supplier and propelling the nation toward its ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ goal.
