President Murmu Attends Angola’s 50th Independence Day, Embarks on State Visit to Botswana

President Droupadi Murmu marked a historic moment by attending Angola’s 50th Independence Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with African nations. The visit underscored India’s deepening diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties with Angola — a key partner in the Global South and energy cooperation.
During the celebrations in Luanda, President Murmu congratulated the Government and people of Angola on completing five decades of independence and praised the nation’s remarkable progress in peacebuilding, economic reforms, and regional leadership. She also highlighted India’s support for Africa’s development under the vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
President Murmu’s visit to Angola included bilateral discussions with President João Lourenço, focusing on trade, energy, agriculture, and capacity-building initiatives. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to boost cooperation in education, renewable energy, and technology.
After concluding her engagements in Angola, President Murmu departed for Botswana on the second leg of her African tour. She was warmly received in Gaborone, where she is scheduled to hold talks with President Mokgweetsi Masisi and other top dignitaries. The visit aims to further strengthen India-Botswana cooperation in the fields of diamond trade, healthcare, digital innovation, and skill development.
This two-nation visit reflects India’s growing outreach in Africa and commitment to building equitable partnerships for sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.
