The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Ashok Kumar as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi. He will assume charge immediately, replacing R. Alice Vaz, as per the official communication issued by the Commission.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Delhi, the Election Commission clearly stated that Ashok Kumar must take over the charge of the office of CEO, National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, with immediate effect. This appointment is significant from the perspective of election administration and constitutional bodies, making it important for competitive examinations.
Background of the Appointment
In January, the Election Commission had directed the Delhi Government to submit a panel of three IAS officers for the selection of a new Chief Electoral Officer. This step was taken as part of the Commission’s standard procedure to ensure neutrality, administrative efficiency, and adherence to electoral norms.
Ashok Kumar was one of the three IAS officers whose names were forwarded to the Election Commission. The panel was sent by the Delhi government under the leadership of Rekha Gupta, following the Commission’s instructions.

The Chief Electoral Officer of a state or union territory plays a crucial role in:
