PAN Card how to apply Step-by-Step Guide

 

What is PAN Card?

A PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a 10-digit alphanumeric identity issued by the Income Tax Department of India. It is mandatory for financial transactions like opening a bank account, filing taxes, buying property, etc.

📌 Step-by-Step Guide (NSDL Portal):

Step 1: Visit Official Website

Go to: https://www.tin-nsdl.com

Click on ‘PAN’ > ‘Apply Online’ > Then choose ‘New PAN (Form 49A)’ for Indian Citizens.

Step 2: Choose Application Type

You’ll be redirected to https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html

Application Type: New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)

Category: Individual
Fill in your personal details: Full name, DOB, email ID, mobile number, etc.
Submit

Step 3: Get Token Number

You will receive a Token Number – Save it for future reference.

Click on "Continue with PAN Application Form".

Step 4: Fill Personal Details

Choose one of the following:

Submit digitally through Aadhaar e-KYC

Submit scanned images (e-sign)
Submit physical form

Then fill in:

Identity proof

Address proof
Date of Birth proof

Upload required documents (only if needed).

Step 5: Upload Documents (If Not Using e-KYC)

Upload scanned copies of:

Passport size photo

Signature (on white paper)
Aadhaar Card or other ID proof
Address Proof

Step 6: Pay Fees

₹93 for Indian communication address (₹864 if foreign)

Pay via Credit/Debit card, Net Banking, or UPI

Step 7: Aadhaar e-KYC and e-Sign

If you opt for Aadhaar e-KYC:

Authenticate using OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

No need to send physical documents.

Step 8: Final Submission

Submit the form. You’ll get an Acknowledgment Number.


📬 Step 9: Send Physical Documents (If not e-signed)

If you chose manual sign (not Aadhaar e-KYC), send the signed acknowledgment form and documents to:

NSDL e-Gov, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411016


📆 Processing Time:

Usually 7–15 working days

PAN will be delivered to your address and also emailed as e-PAN

📝 OFFLINE PROCEDURE

Step 1: Get Form 49A

Step 2: Fill the Form

Use BLOCK LETTERS and black ink

Paste a recent passport-size photo

Step 3: Attach Documents

ID proof (Aadhaar/Passport/Voter ID)

Address proof
DOB proof
2 passport-size photos

Step 4: Submit the Form

Submit the form and documents at nearest UTIITSL or NSDL center.

Step 5: Pay the Fee

Pay ₹93 (or as applicable)

Step 6: Acknowledgment Slip

You’ll get a receipt with an acknowledgment number for tracking.

Enter your acknowledgment number to track your PAN card status.


📌 Important Tips

Mobile number must be linked with Aadhaar for e-KYC.

Name on documents should match exactly.
Minor or senior citizens need special instructions (guardian details, etc.)
