TACROLIMUS
TACROLIMUS is a medicine that is used in kidney transplant as well as nephrotic syndrome .It is a drug with narrow therapeutic index which means that if levels are low it will not work and if levels are high it can cause severe side -effects.We need to mantain levels within a range and this range also depends on your kidney function as well as number of months after kidney transplant. To complicate maters even further there are different ranges for different methods so we should followup with one laboratory only which is reliable and not cahnge labs frequenly . Also levels may vary from brand to brand so please do not change brands frequently. The levels needs to be done in a proper way as incorrect procedure will lead to incorrect levels and can even lead to rejection on one hand or severe side effects.Also it is a specialised test and in my experience only a few labs can do it properly.
