India Shines Bright: 3 Gold Medals & 7th Rank at International Mathematical Olympiad 2025



India has once again proven its academic prowess by securing a 7th place global ranking at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, held from July 10–21 on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Competing against the brightest young minds from 110 countries, India brought home a total of six medals3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze — achieving the highest team score in its history.

📚 About the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)

  • The IMO is the world’s most prestigious mathematics competition for high school students.

  • It includes two 4.5-hour exams over two days, with six challenging problems in total.

  • Participants are selected through rigorous national and regional contests.


📈 Historic Achievement for India

  • This is only the second time ever India has won 3 gold medals — the first time was in 1998.

  • India has participated in IMO since 1989, and now has 23 gold medals in total.

  • India was ranked 4th in 2024, 9th in 2023, and now 7th in 2025 — showing consistent top-10 performance.

The Indian team was selected and trained under the guidance of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai.
