📝 Section B – Precis Writing (30 Marks)
Read the passage and write a précis in about one-third of its length. Suggest a suitable title.
Passage:
The object of prison is not only deterrence and punishment but also reformation. While keeping a person in confinement, society must not forget that the prisoner is also a human being with rights and dignity. In many prisons across the country, conditions are inhuman, facilities are minimal, and prisoners are often subjected to brutality. Rehabilitation efforts are inadequate and prisoners often return to society with more bitterness than repentance. A progressive society must look at prisons as correctional institutions and ensure that those who serve time return with the capacity to reintegrate. Education, skill development, and psychological support must become integral to prison life, not exceptions. A prison is not a dumping ground; it is a reflection of our justice system.
