1. QCDD License (Qatar Civil Defence Department)

What is QCDD?

QCDD (Qatar Civil Defence Department) approval is mandatory for engineers, technicians, and companies working in fields related to fire safety systems, including:

Firefighting systems

Fire alarm systems
HVAC smoke control
Fire-rated ducts and materials

🎯 Who Needs It?

Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Protection Engineers

Fire system contractors, consultants, designers, technicians
Anyone involved in design, installation, or maintenance of fire protection systems in Qatar

📋 Eligibility Criteria:

Engineering degree in relevant field (Mechanical, Electrical, etc.)

Valid work visa and Qatar ID (QID)
UPDA/MMUP license is usually required before QCDD
Experience certificates (2–5 years minimum preferred)
Training or experience in fire systems (e.g., NFPA standards)
📚 Exam Details:
Written and/or oral interview conducted by QCDD officials
Questions based on NFPA standards, local civil defense codes, and fire system designs
English medium
Mostly scenario-based technical questions

🛠️ 2. UPDA / MMUP License (Urban Planning and Development Authority)

Now called MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) licensing.

What is UPDA/MMUP License?

This license is mandatory for engineers to legally practice in Qatar. It is issued by the Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA) under MME.

🎯 Who Needs It?

All engineers (civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) working as:

  • Consultants

  • Contractors

  • Project Engineers

  • Site Engineers

🧑‍🎓 Eligibility:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (attested by MOFA and embassy)

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience

  • Valid Qatar ID (QID)

  • Proficiency in English (Arabic not mandatory, but helpful)

📚 Exam Pattern:

  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) – Technical + General Engineering Knowledge

  • Based on your field (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, etc.)

  • Questions also include Qatar Construction Standards (QCS)

📄 Documents Required:

  • Valid Passport + Qatar ID

  • Attested Educational Certificates

  • Experience Certificates (attested)

  • CV (Arabic & English)
