INCOIS Celebrates 27th Foundation Day, Strengthens India’s Oceanographic Leadership

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) celebrated its 27th Foundation Day at its Hyderabad campus, marking an important milestone in India’s ocean science and maritime safety ecosystem. A key attraction of the event was the unveiling of INCOIS’s new institutional logo, symbolising its evolving role in advanced ocean services and digital innovation. Alongside this, INCOIS launched three cutting-edge digital platforms aimed at improving ocean monitoring, disaster preparedness, and maritime advisories.
The newly launched JellyAIIP platform focuses on jellyfish monitoring, providing early warnings to fishermen and coastal communities to reduce livelihood losses and health risks. The SAMUDRA 2.0 mobile application, an upgraded version of the existing advisory system, offers real-time maritime advisories for fishermen, including weather, ocean state, and safety-related information. Another major launch was SIVAS, an early warning system for coastal inundation, designed to enhance preparedness against coastal flooding and extreme ocean events.
Strategic Collaborations for Research and Blue Economy
To further strengthen national research capabilities and the blue economy, INCOIS exchanged strategic agreements with the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ICCS, and ALEAP. These collaborations aim to integrate space-based data, advanced modelling, and industry participation in ocean services, supporting sustainable use of marine resources.
International Engagement and Scientific Exchange
The Foundation Day celebrations coincided with the WCSSP India Annual Review Meeting, which brought together nearly 100 experts from India and the United Kingdom. This reflects INCOIS’s growing international engagement and its role in collaborative climate and ocean research.
