 A Singular Countable Noun is a noun that refers to one person, one place, one thing, or one animal and can be counted.

Definition

A singular countable noun means only one item and it normally takes a/an or one before it.

Formula:

Singular Countable Noun = One + Countable Thing

Examples:

a book → one book

an apple → one apple
a student → one student
a car → one car
a teacher → one teacher

Sentences:

  1. I have a pen.

  2. She bought an orange.

  3. He is a doctor.

  4. There is a cat in the room.

Important Rule:

Singular countable nouns usually cannot stand alone in a sentence.

❌ I have book.
✅ I have a book.

❌ She is teacher.
✅ She is a teacher.
