The examination layout distributes marks across foundational knowledge areas, starting with General Awareness with special reference to the Union Territory of J&K, which accounts for 24 marks. Comprehensive Section-Wise Syllabus Details
1. General Awareness with Special Reference to UT of J&K
This section evaluates broad awareness of national and regional issues, historical context, policy frameworks, and geographic details. Key national topics include current affairs of national and international significance, political and physical divisions of India, climate and crops, transport and communication systems, as well as demography covering census metrics and vital statistics. Candidates are expected to know major rivers and lakes in India, fundamental aspects of the Indian economy, along with Indian culture, heritage, and history with special emphasis on the freedom movement. Further, this section covers the Constitution of India, including basic features, the Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties, and Directive Principles of State Policy. It also includes general science and technology, environment, ecology, and biodiversity, alongside direct and indirect taxation systems in India such as CBDT and GST.
For the Jammu and Kashmir portion, candidates must cover the region's history, economy, geography including weather, climate, crops, rivers, lakes, flora, and fauna, as well as heritage, culture, and major tourist destinations. Additional mandatory topics include the J&K Reorganization Act of 2019, centrally sponsored schemes like MGNREGA, PMAY, and SBM, and the Panchayati Raj Act and Rules.
2. General English & Comprehension
The English section assesses language proficiency, grammatical accuracy, and reading comprehension abilities. Mechanics and grammar topics encompass tenses, narration, modals, articles, prepositions, clauses, active and passive voice, along with subject-verb agreement principles. Core vocabulary evaluation includes synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, pairs of words and their usage in meaningful sentences, homonyms, homophones, and spellings correction. Sentence-level structural skills cover rearranging jumbled sentences, identifying errors via error spotting, performing sentence corrections, and filling in blanks using appropriate phrases and pronouns. Reading comprehension exercises test complete passage analysis and understanding.
3. General Intelligence & Reasoning
This component measures analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and pattern recognition skills. Verbal and logical areas include number series, letter series, speed, distance, and time scenarios, statements and conclusions, logical reasoning, mental reasoning, word building, and numerical operations. Spatial and visual concepts cover semantic analogy, symbolic or number analogy, figural analogy, semantic classification, symbolic or number classification, figural classification, and general problem-solving. Visual intelligence topics further include symbolic operations, trends, space orientation, space visualization, Venn diagrams, drawing inferences, punched hole or pattern folding and unfolding, figural pattern folding and completion, indexing, address matching, date and city matching, classification of centre codes or roll numbers, and small versus capital letter distinctions.
4. Quantitative Aptitude
The quantitative portion tests basic mathematical computation, numerical accuracy, and graphical data analysis. Numerical computations cover whole numbers, decimals, fractions, relationships between numbers, profit and loss, discounts, partnership businesses, mixture and alligation, time and work, percentage, ratio and proportion, square roots, averages, interest calculations, and basic algebraic identities. Advanced and geometric topics encompass graphs of linear equations, triangles and their various centers, congruence and similarity of triangles, circle geometry including chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords, common tangents to two or more circles, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, right prisms, right circular cones, right circular cylinders, spheres, hemispheres, rectangular parallelopipeds, regular right pyramids with triangular or square bases, trigonometric ratios, degree and radian measures, standard identities, and complementary angles.
5. Knowledge of Computers
The computer knowledge module measures basic digital literacy, software operations, and security practices essential for modern administrative operations. Conceptual topics cover basic applications of computers and their core components, fundamentals of computer sciences, hardware and software principles, and concepts behind open-source technologies. Practical tool familiarity includes input and output devices, in-depth knowledge of office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint, as well as handling PDF files, internet browsing, and email handling. Security and modern applications cover computer virus concepts, latest anti-virus solutions, and the overarching role of Information Technology in governance.
