Evacuation Warning Issued in Colorado as Wildfire Burns Near Boulder County
An evacuation warning was issued in Boulder County, Colorado, on October 6, 2026, as firefighters responded to a wildfire burning near the Dry Creek St. Vrain Trail area.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office issued the warning at about 9:38 a.m. for an area north of Highway 7 and west of Lyons, near Forest Service Road 920. Officials urged residents in the affected area to prepare to leave and gather essential belongings in case conditions worsened.
Dry Creek Fire Prompts Warning
The fire, known as the Dry Creek Fire, was reported Tuesday morning in the mountainous area between Lyons and Allenspark. Officials said smoke could be visible from surrounding communities.
The evacuation warning covered areas north of Riverside, east of Allenspark and west of Lyons on U.S. Forest Service lands, including areas between South Sheep Mountain and Coffintop Mountain.
At the time of the initial reports, the fire was relatively small, but officials were taking precautionary measures because wildfire conditions can change rapidly.
Residents Told to Prepare
Residents within the warning area were advised to be ready to evacuate if the situation escalates. Authorities encouraged people to monitor official emergency alerts and follow instructions from local officials.
Colorado communities have recently adopted more standardized evacuation terminology. An Evacuation Warning means residents should prepare to leave, while an Evacuation Order means there is an immediate threat and people must leave the affected area.
Wildfire Risk Remains a Concern
The latest incident comes during a year of significant wildfire activity across Colorado. Several large fires have affected different parts of the state, prompting evacuation orders and warnings in multiple communities.
Officials continue to monitor the Dry Creek Fire and changing weather and fire conditions around Boulder County.
Residents in or near the affected area are encouraged to rely on official emergency notifications and local authorities for the latest evacuation information.
