SSC to conduct Multi Tasking exam in to 13 Regional languages centre approves SSC Exam in 13 regional language

Normally, the question papers in the recruitment examinations conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) are in Hindi and English. However, in the examination for recruitment of Multi Tasking Staff (Non-technical), conducted by SSC, the candidates have the option of answering in the descriptive paper in English or in any language included in the eighth schedule to the Constitution of India. At present there is no proposal to extend this to other examinations.

This was stated by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Dr Jitendra Singh in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

Now : To promote equal opportunities and remove language barriers, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has made a historic decision to conduct the Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff examination in 2022 in 13 regional languages in addition to Hindi and English. Union Minister has praised the move.

Languages Included

The 13 regional languages that will be included in the examination are Urdu, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Konkani, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, and Punjabi. This move will fulfill the long-standing demand of candidates from different states, particularly from South India, for exams to be conducted in languages other than English and Hindi.

Expert Committee Review

To review the scheme and syllabus of examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, including the medium in which the examinations are conducted, the Department of Personnel and Training has constituted an Expert Committee. The committee has recommended that it would be beneficial to conduct the examinations for lower-level posts in multiple languages, starting with a few languages and gradually increasing to include all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The government has accepted the recommendations of the committee.

The SSC, one of the largest recruiting agencies of the Government of India, is responsible for recruitment to all Group B (Non-Gazetted) and Group C (Non-Technical Posts) in various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. The medium of examinations conducted by the Commission is normally Hindi and English.

This move towards conducting the examinations in multiple languages not only ensures that no job aspirant is denied an opportunity or disadvantaged due to language barriers, but it also celebrates the linguistic diversity of our nation and promotes equal opportunities for all. The efforts to gradually include all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution is a step towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of honoring all languages and promoting emotional unity among citizens.
