The Lieutenant Governor (LG) rule in Jammu and Kashmir was in effect. In August 2019, the Indian government made significant changes to the governance structure of Jammu and Kashmir. The state was reorganized into two separate union territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Under the new arrangement, the position of Chief Minister was replaced by the Lieutenant Governor. The Lieutenant Governor became the chief executive of the union territory, representing the central government's authority in the region. The LG is appointed by the President of India and serves as the head of the administration.
