Adi Vyakhyan Inaugurated

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda inaugurated a two-day tribal orientation programme - Adi Vyakhyan - in New Delhi on December 21, 2023.
The programme has been organized by the National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI).
The objective is to have a deeper understanding of the complexities of tribal traditions and culture and to explore the challenges to their existence.
This is an initiative to explore tribal identity and the tribal contributions to the nation’s cultural diversity.
The Adi Vyakhyan programme will familiarize the tribal communities with the statistical input of India and the Constitutional safeguards.

‘Paat-Mitro’ App Launched

The Jute Corporation of India took a significant step toward supporting jute farmers by launching the ‘Paat-Mitro’ app on December 21, 2023.
Rachna Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, inaugurated the app, which aims to provide essential knowledge to farmers for optimal jute cultivation and increased income.
The app provides details on jute gradation parameters, helping farmers understand and enhance the quality of their jute produce.
The new app will help jute farmers and revitalizing the industry.

Chennai Grand Masters 2023 (Chess)

Indian chess prodigy, Dommaraju Gukesh clinched the title by holding compatriot Pentala Harikrishna for a draw, on December 21, 2023 in Chennai Grand Masters 2023.
Arjun Erigaisi secured the second spot and both Arjun and Gukesh finished the event at 4.5 points out of 7.
Gukesh won the tournament on tie-breaks.
Pentala Harikrishna finished third with 4 points, as all three Indians in the tournament ended the campaign with a podium finish.

Benoy Roy Chowdhury

Late Vice-Admiral Benoy Roy Chowdhury has been awarded the Vir Chakra on December 21, 2023.
Late Vice-Admiral Benoy Roy Chowdhury was a hero of the India-Pakistan war of 1971 and in this war, Benoy Roy was posted as an engineer on INS Vikrant.
'Veer Chakra' is an award given for military bravery during wartime.
This Vir Chakra Award was received by INS Shivaji, one of the premier technical training establishments of the Indian Navy.

Sanjay Singh (Appointment)

Sanjay Singh has been elected the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on December 21, 2023.
He was elected after the results of election of office bearers, in which he got 40 votes.
The other applicant, Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning wrestler, Anita Sheoran received seven votes.
Sanjay Singh is the vice president of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association and he previously served on the WFI's executive council.
He has also been the national federation's joint secretary since 2019.

Ericsson Lunar Award

The ISRO has been honoured with the Ericsson Lunar Award on December 21, 2023.
Indian Ambassador Bala Subramanian Shyam received this prestigious award in Iceland on behalf of ISRO.
This award has been given to ISRO for the success of Chandrayaan-3.
The award recognizes ISRO's extraordinary contributions to lunar exploration and understanding of astronomical phenomena.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023

Mary Earps was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023 on December 21, 2023.
Mary Earps is the second consecutive female footballer to win this BBC award and the third woman to win the award in three years.
Earps was the vice-captain for England in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
This is BBC 70th edition of Sports Personality of the Year award.

UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award

UNESCO has awarded the resilient urban revitalisation of Rambagh Gate and Ramparts in Punjab on December 21, 2023, as well as the heritage conservation projects related to Haryana's Church of Epiphany and Delhi's Bikaner House.
The Rambagh Gate and Ramparts project received the highest honor, the 'Award of Excellence,' for its inclusivity and access to the broader community.
Three projects, including the Church of Epiphany and Bikaner House, received an 'Award of Merit.'
