When You Don’t Get the Respect You Deserve
By Afzal Ahamed Malik
I did everything right,
Walked the honest line,
Stayed humble in storms,
Still, the spotlight was never mine.
I didn’t shout to be seen,
Didn’t fake to fit in,
Didn’t sell my soul
Just to make a little noise in the din.
But they looked through me—
Like silence meant I was small,
Like dignity wasn’t enough,
If I didn’t stand tall in a hall.
They called my quiet weakness,
My humility lack of skill,
But they never saw the fire
I carried beneath my will.
They chose the louder voices,
Those dressed in gold and pride,
While I, with clean intentions,
Sat quietly on the side.
It hurt—not being noticed,
Not because I needed fame,
But because I gave my everything
And still left without a name.
But maybe—just maybe—
My worth wasn’t missing at all,
It was just too deep
For shallow minds to recall.
So I remind myself, softly:
I don’t need a crown to shine,
I don’t need fake applause
To know this quiet heart is mine.
Let the world chase what’s flashy,
Let it bow to false kings,
I’ll keep building a life
That only truth brings.
And if you feel unseen too,
If your soul aches in the shade—
Know that real respect
Is in the choices you’ve made.
You don’t need to shout to matter.
You just need to stand in your truth.
And one day—
The right eyes will see you.
