6. Manipur Bomb Attack: Two Children Killed in Bishnupur District A devastating bomb explosion occurred on April 7, 2026, at village Tronglaobi near Moirang in Bishnupur district, Manipur. The blast struck a civilian residence at 1:00 AM, killing two children and critically injuring their mother. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took charge of the investigation. Security forces subsequently arrested three members of the UKNA (United Kuki National Army) in Churachandpur district, recovering arms and 21 kilograms of raw opium during the operation. 7. AI-Powered 'Prajna' System Handed to Ministry of Home Affairs The AI-powered security system named 'Prajna' was officially handed over to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 8. India's Manufacturing PMI Rises to 54.7 in April 2026 India's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose to 54.7 in April 2026, up from 53.9 in March. The HSBC Flash India PMI data indicated moderate growth across output, new orders including exports, and employment — pointing to continued resilience in India's manufacturing sector despite global economic uncertainties.
9. Industrial Output (IIP) Grows 4.9% in April 2026 India's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a growth rate of 4.9% in April 2026 compared to the same period last year. The figures were released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and reflect a positive trend in industrial activity, including manufacturing, mining, and electricity generation.
10. RBI Projects 6.9% GDP Growth for India in FY27 The Reserve Bank of India projected a GDP growth rate of 6.9% for India in FY2026–27, even as global uncertainties — including geopolitical tensions and trade disruptions — continue to pose macroeconomic risks. The projection signals sustained confidence in India's domestic economic fundamentals.
11. RBI Revives Polymer Note Project — India to Test Plastic Currency The Reserve Bank of India revived its long-pending Polymer Note Project, announcing that India will soon test plastic currency notes. Polymer notes are more durable, water-resistant, and harder to counterfeit compared to traditional cotton-based currency, and have been successfully used by several countries globally.
12. Fuel Prices Hiked — Petrol Up ₹7.38, Diesel Up ₹7.52 Per Litre Since May 15, 2026, fuel retailers raised petrol prices by ₹7.38 per litre and diesel by ₹7.52 per litre. Severe Heat Wave — 47.6°C Recorded in Banda and Brahmpuri India experienced a brutal heat wave in May 2026, with Banda in Uttar Pradesh and Brahmpuri in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region recording the country's highest maximum temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius.
