1 Crore Households to get Rooftop Solar Systems

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on January 22, 2024 that every citizen of the nation ought to own a solar rooftop system.
  • The "Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana," announced by PM Modi, would provide rooftop solar systems to one crore households.
  • In addition, he said, this will lowermiddle-class and impoverished people's electricity bills and increase India's energy independence.
  • The Prime Minister wants to lessen India's dependency on non-renewable energy sources and increase the country's energy independence.

 

Five New Galleries at Salar Jung Museum Inaugurated

  • Union Minister of Culture and Tourism G. Kishan Reddy, opened five new galleries at the Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad on January 22, 2024. 
  • Some of the forty sculptures in the Indian Sculpture Gallery date to the second century B.C. One such sculpture is called "Anantsayana Vishnu" and is from the Kakatiya period.
  • In an effort to attract the public, Salar Jung Museum has reorganized its older galleries and added new ones from collections that have intriguing potential.
  • A. Yadagiri Rao, former chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research Prof. Y. Sudershan Rao, and senior IIS officer Ashish Goyal, Additional DG, National Museums are presented.

Sony Terminated $10 Billion Merger Deal with Zee Entertainment

  • Sony Pictures Networks India Pvt Ltd. and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. mutually terminated their merger agreement on January 22, 2024.
  •  Closing conditions had to be met within the allotted time for the $10 billion deal, which was signed on December 22, 2021.
  • A clause in the final agreements stated that if the merger did not close within 24 months of the signature date, talks about extending its end date would take place.
  • Termination of the agreement became an option, though, as closing conditions were not satisfied by the deadline.

Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2024

  • President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2024 to 19 deserving children on January 22, 2024, in New Delhi.
  • Nineteen children, from all over the nation, received the award in the areas of sports, social service, innovation, bravery, art and culture.
  • Children between the ages of 5-18 received the awards.
  • Smriti Irani, Minister of Women and Child Development, and Munjpara Mahendrabhai, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, were also in attendance.

  • Praveen Achuthan Kutty has been appointed as the MD and CEO of DCB Bank which received approval from the RBI on January 22, 2024.
  • With more than 32 years of experience in SME and retail banking, Praveen Achuthan Kutty brings a wealth of knowledge to the table.
  • Kutty, who has been a key member of DCB Bank's leadership team for the previous sixteen years, is currently in charge of Retail, SME, and Agri Banking.
  • The appointment is scheduled to take effect on April 28, 2024, which is the end of Murali Natrajan's tenure as MD and CEO.

  • Manipur celebrated the Emoinu Iratpa festival on January 22, 2024.
  • Emoinu Ahongbi, a Meetei goddess revered as the goddess of wealth, is the focus of the festival.
  • On the twelfth lunar day of the Meetei calendar's Wakching month, the community celebrates a religious festival. 
  • In states like Bangladesh and Myanmar, where a sizable population of Meetei resides, the festival is observed.

 

 

AN-32 Courier Service Inaugurated in Ladakh

  • AN-32 Courier Service was inaugurated in Kargil (Ladakh), marked a momentous occasion on January 22, 2024.
  • Pilots from the Indian Air Force safely carried 11 passengers from Kargil to Jammu and 7 from Jammu to Kargil on the inaugural flight.
  •  It was anticipated that this initiative was crucial in promoting economic development and improving regional connectivity.
  • By streamlining travel the AN-32 Courier Service seeked to increase connectivity to and from Kargil.

11th Edition of India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Military Exercise ‘Khanjar’ (Defence)

  • The 11th iteration of the joint military exercise between India and Kyrgyzstan, known as “Khanjar”, got underway on January 22, 2024 in Himachal Pradesh.
  • The Special Forces Training School in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh, is the venue for this edition. The 11-day course includes drills and simulations for terrorist operations.
  • The goal of the two-week exercise is to improve defense cooperation and share counterterrorism operation skills. 
  • Each year, India and Kyrgyzstan jointly undertake the Khanjar military exercise, which is held alternately in both nations.
